Islamic Studies deals with imparting essential knowledge of Islamic beliefs, practices, and ethics and developing spiritual awareness, moral thinking and responsible living as conscious Muslims. The subject focuses on the critical reflection of faith in daily life, the application of Islamic principles to one’s personal character and social interactions, and the understanding of the role of Islam in fostering harmony in a diverse and modern society. Through study of Qur’an, Sunnah, Seerah, Aqidah, Adab (manners), Ibadah (worship) and Dawah (invitation to good), students examine the application of Islamic values to ethical choices, positive character building, and how these values contribute to personal growth and well-being of the community.

The general teaching purposes of Islamic Studies are:

  • To give students at senior secondary level the basic knowledge of Islamic faith, ethics and practices, and to cultivate their good values and attitudes (including being kind, honest, respectful, responsible, integral and having a sense of national belonging), in order to practice their roles competently and confidently as individuals, as family members, as members of the community, as citizens in Hong Kong and in the world;
  • To develop the generic skills of Students including reflection, analysis, critical thinking, ethical reasoning, communication, collaboration, problem-solving and self-management skills and enable students to transfer these in different personal, social and lifelong contexts;
  • To explore various aspects of teachings of Islam from the basic beliefs and worship to character development, manners and outreach (Dawah) in preparing the students for a meaningful life and continuous learning for life and harmonious living in a pluralistic society and contributing responsibly to the nation and the world.
